Fourth Singapore-China International Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference Keynote Speeches Remark

On November 27th, the Fourth Singapore-China International Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference was successfully held in Beijing. The keynote session brought together esteemed experts and scholars from the legal, business, and judicial sectors in both Singapore and China to deliver insightful speeches.
ZHANG Yuejiao, honorary chairman of the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO) and China’s first former WTO Appellate Body Judge, emphasized that the progress and future of international commercial dispute resolution require collaboration and mutual learning among nations, especially Singapore and China. Efforts should focus on advancing dispute prevention and resolution theories, fostering legal cooperation, and cultivating international legal talents.
ONG Tze Guan, chairman of the Singapore Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China, stated that the successful cooperation between Singapore and China, as exemplified by the Suzhou Industrial Park, demonstrates the deepening and substantial nature of their partnership. The Chamber plays a crucial bridging role to strengthen connections and navigate challenges among business.
WANG Han, member of the Supreme People’s Court’s in the field of foreign commerce, executive director of the Legal Research Center on Foreign Affairs of Northwest University of Political Science and Law, discussed recent trends in international civil and commercial dispute resolution. He highlighted the growing need for international judicial assistance framework, the emergence of a diversified dispute resolution mechanism in which integrates arbitration, litigation, and mediation, and the deep connection between economic globalization and dispute resolution practices.
Gloria LIM, CEO of Singapore International Arbitration Centre(SIAC), shared six key elements for a reliable international dispute resolution system: legal framework, bases on rule of law, strong judicial support, comprehensive disputes resolution services, reputable institutions, legal&skilled professionals, and convenient supporting facilitation.
