The Fourth Singapore - China International Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference Panel 2 Remark

The 4th Singapore-China International Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference panel 2 discussion was chaired by SHEN Peilan, Secretary-general of ICDPASO, with the topic of  “Application Prospects and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology in Dispute Resolution”.


GU Yan, Vice President of the Arbitration Court of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), emphasized that legal professionals must uphold the integrity of information when utilizing AI and digital technologies. While pursuing efficiency, we must respect the will and justice of the parties, strengthen supervision and management, and ensure that AI is used legally and in compliance with regulations.


Nicholas LUM, Partner of Clyde & Co and Director of Clasis LLC, emphasized that in dealing with AI, both enterprises and individuals must transcend the subjective assumptions of  “I thought” and cultivate a profound  understanding of “I understand” to ensure  compliant use of AI technology.


LI Shouping, Dean of the Law school of Beijing Institute of Technology, proposed that the efficiency and accuracy of international dispute resolution will be greatly improved with the empowerment of AI. Although AI has a broad prospect, attention must be paid to algorithmic impacts and data security, strengthen legislation and regulation to ensure that AI develops under human control.


Joan Lim-Casanova, Partner and Director of K&L Gates Straits Law LLC, shared the scene in which her team used AI technology to improve work efficiency. She noted that although AI tools still need to be improved in terms of accuracy and language processing, they can effectively improve the efficiency of case handling.
