The Fourth Singapore -China International Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference Panel 3 Remark

The 4th Singapore-China International Commercial Dispute Resolution Conference Panel 3 discussion was chaired by Klevin Koh, Partner of TSMP Law Corporation. The panellists exchanged the views on how to optimize international arbitration and shared positive progress made in Singapore and China.


LI Hu, Vice Chairman of the China Maritime Arbitration Commission (CMAC) and ICSID Mediator Recommended by the Chinese government, emphasized the important of ensuring independence, fairness, and the integration of time, cost, and quality to achieve a dynamic balance, and foster the healthy development within the arbitration industry.


Koh Swee Yen SC, Head of the International Arbitration Practice at Wong Partnership LLP, stressed the importance of flexibility and adaptability in international arbitration. She mentioned that arbitrators need to continuously learn and practice flexible arbitration procedures to ensure more efficient time management and better cost control.


LIU Jingdong, Director of the International Economics Law Office of the Institute of International Law of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, emphasized the significant enhancements in the revised Chinese Arbitration Law, including the establishment of the arbitration seat and recognition of Ad-hoc arbitration. He opined that the revised Arbitration Law represents step towards in modernizing the Chinese arbitration legal framework.


Mahesh Rai, Director of Drew & Napier LLC, mentioned the special emergency arbitrator system. He stated that the International Arbitration Center in Singapore has improved the speed and efficiency of handling urgent cases by introducing emergency arbitrators alongside streamlined  arbitration procedures.
