On August 22, the 8th International Mediation Summit was held in Urumqi, Xinjiang, hosted by the Commercial Legal Service Center of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and co-organised by the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO), and focused on the theme of “Deepen Reform and Innovation in Dispute Resolution Mechanism and Promote the Development of Economic Trade & Investment”. More than 340 mediators, arbitrators, and legal experts from 15 countries and regions attended the event in person, while 5.92 million people followed the event via an online live stream. Ms. SHEN Peilan, Secretary-General of the ICDPASO was invited to deliver a speech on “The Latest Developments in Dispute Prevention and Resolution Mechanisms at Home and Abroad”.
Ms. SHEN Peilan stated that dispute prevention is highly valued by the international community and as a dispute resolution method of “origins-tracing management”, it has increasingly become the priority method for international commercial subjects to adopt. Meanwhile, the level of internationalisation of commercial mediation has increased significantly, international cooperation has been enhanced, and the operation of commercial mediation institutions has become increasingly international. Furthermore, the development of the Digital Intelligent Era has brought new opportunities and challenges to the field of dispute prevention and resolution.
In the face of the latest development trends in dispute prevention and resolution mechanisms, ICDPASO will strengthen the cooperation and coordination capacity of “Digital Intelligence”, and strengthen innovative development, to work with all parties to build a favourable environment in the field of dispute prevention and resolution and to promote the integrated development of dispute prevention and resolution.
