The 4th Belt and Road International Commercial Law (The Yellow River) Forum Was Successfully Held in Lanzhou

On July 6, 2023, the 4th Belt and Road International Commercial Law (The Yellow River) Forum was successfully held during the 29th China Lanzhou Investment and Trade Fair, Gansu Province of China. GUO Chenglu, Vice Chairman of Gansu Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and CHEN Jian’an, Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) addressed the forum at the opening ceremony.

 

The forum was co-hosted by the CCPIT, and the People’s Government of Gansu Province of China, and was jointly organized by the Secretariat of the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO), Department of Legal Affairs of CCPIT, CCPIT GANSU Provincial Committee, and Gansu University of Political Science and Law. Including academics and renowned legal experts from countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road, officials from embassies and consulates in China, representatives from international business associations, over 250 guests from enterprises, arbitration centres, law firms, universities, and other industries attended the forum.

 

With the theme of "Openness, Rule of law, Innovation--Promoting the Rule of Law for the High-quality Development of the Belt and Road Initiative", the forum focused on the legal protection of enterprises going global, guiding cross-border enterprises to effectively prevent and resolve international investment and trade risks, settling cross-border commercial disputes in a diversified manner, and providing legal support for their international operations.

 

YANG Guohua, WTO Appeal Arbitrator, Professor at China Tsinghua University (Member of ICDPASO Advisory Committee) Law School, Patrick Nijs, Former Belgian Ambassador to China, Co-founder of the EU-China Joint Innovation Center (Member of ICDPASO), and CAI Hua, Vice President of All China Lawyers Association (Member of ICDPASO Council) delivered keynote speeches.

 

In the session of salon conversations, LI Zhaohui, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of China National Nuclear Corporation, Sukhbaatar UYANGAA, Chairwoman of the Board of the Legal Development & Reform Institute of Mongolia, Senior Legal Adviser to Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Member of ICDPASO Supervisory Committee), CHEN Dongxing, Senior Associate of AllBright (Beijing) Law Offices, and YANG Xiangyun, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Committee of Gansu Lawyers Association discussed and exchanged views on the topic of the Building of a Law-based and International Business Environment for the Belt and Road Cooperation. MA Jianxin, International Compliance Expert of CCPIT Legal Advisory Committee on Economic and Trade Frictions, WANG Hua, Professor of Silk Road Law School of Gansu University of Political Science and Law, Ignacio De La Rasilla, Chief Expert at Wuhan University (Member of ICDPASO Advisory Committee) Academy of International Law and Global Governance, YU Zhiguo, Partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm (Beijing), and TIAN Haozheng, Vice Director of Law Department of CCPIT GANSU Provincial Committee exchanged views on the topic of the Risks and Challenges Facing by Cross-border Enterprises "Going Global" & Cases Sharing.

 

MA Xueli, Chairman of CCPIT GANSU Provincial Committee, and CHEN Huaisheng, Director of the Cooperation Division of the Legal Affairs Department of CCPIT presided over the opening ceremony and salon conversations respectively. LIU Chao, Secretary-General of ICDPASO delivered the closing remarks.

 

At the forum, the first serie of “The Belt and Road Initiative” National Legal Research Series (revised version) was released and the Secretariat of ICDPASO and the Legal Development & Reform Institute of Mongolia signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
