Belt & Road Forum for Commercial and Legal Cooperation Was Successfully Held in Xi’an

On August 16, 2022, the Belt & Road Forum for Commercial and Legal Cooperation was successfully held during the 6th Silk Road International Exposition in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province of China. LIU Qiang, Member of the Standing Committee and Head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, KE Liangdong, Member of CPC Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and ZHANG Yuejiao, Honorary Chair of the International Commercial Dispute Prevention and Settlement Organization (ICDPASO) addressed the forum at the opening ceremony.

The forum is co-hosted by the ICDPASO, the CCPIT, and the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province, and jointly organized by the Secretariat of ICDPASO, Department of Legal Affairs of CCPIT, CCPIT Shaanxi Sub-Council, and the Management Committee of Xi’an International Trade and Logistics Park. With the theme of "Strengthening International Legal and Commercial Cooperation for High-quality Belt & Road Cooperation", the forum brought together the wisdom of well-known legal scholars in China and abroad, as well as practical experts in the fields of business, judiciary, arbitration, made every effort to build a high-level international exchange platform for commerce and law cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative to promote pragmatic cooperation and achieve shared and win-win results, and contributed to the building of the Belt and Road and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind

GAO Xiaoli, Director General of the Bureau of International Cooperation, Deputy Chief Judge of the Sixth Circuit Court and Person-in-Charge of the Second International Commercial Court of the Supreme People’s Court, Sundra Rajoo, President of Asian Institute of Alternate Dispute Resolution (Member of ICDPASO Advisory Committee), former President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, GONG Fuwen, Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Member of the Central Committee of Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, Vice President of Shaanxi Provincial High People's Court, and GAO Zicheng, President of All China Lawyers Association (Member of ICDPASO Council), Vice Chairman of Commission of Commercial Law and Practice of ICC China, delivered keynote speeches by live participation or recorded video.

MA Yuhong, Chair of CCPIT Shaanxi Sub-Council presided over the opening ceremony. WANG Han, Vice President of China Society of Private International Law (Member of ICDPASO Supervisory Committee), Sanqin Scholar of Shaanxi Province, and former Vice President of the Northwest University of Political Science and Law presided over sessions of the keynote speeches, panel discussion and closing remarks. LIU Chao, Director General of Department of Legal Affairs of CCPIT, and Secretary-General of ICDPASO addressed to the closing remarks.

The Launching Ceremony of the Mediator Training Program (Xi'an, China) of the International Mediation Entity (IME) was held and the Belt and Road Demonstration Zone for International Commercial Legal Services was promoted during the forum. The forum was held in a combination of physical and virtual formats, with over 200 guests present in person including experts and academics, as well as representatives of related agencies and business community from countries and regions along the Belt and Road, about over 165,000 viewers around the world watched the forum simultaneously through live streaming platforms.
